Areas of Interest: Breeding tomatoes for resistance to begomoviruses and bacterial wilt; tagging resistance genes in tomatoes. He has managed a tomato breeding program in Guatemala since 1998, and recent has become a partner in a new Guatemalan seed company, Gentropic Seeds. He has worked extensively on PCR-based tagging methods for localization of the begomovirus-resistance genes from L. hirsutum.
