Brenda Esperanza Garcia

Student, graduate in 2006

Research (Jan. to April, 2007)

Research (June to August, 2008)

San Carlos Univeristy, Guatemala City, Guatemala

Brenda came to the Maxwell lab in the Summer of 2006 as a part of a group of researchers from San Carlos University in Guatemala. She used PCR-based methods to characterize the introgression in chromosome 6 of breeding lines from Guatemala. She then returned in January 2007 for three months and June 2008 for 6 weeks. She also assists with the field work in Guatemala and has participated in the evaluation of germplasm for resistance to begomoviruses and Ralstonia solanacerarum. Currently, she is working on a project to determine the effectiveness of Ty3a, Ty2 and Ty4 in resistance to begomoviruses.
