Evaluation of tomato germplasm for resistance to geminiviruses in Sanarate, GT

Luis Mejia, Universidad de San Carlos, Project leader

GF13 Breeding Line

GF13 on the right and a susceptible line (GC6) selected from the Cuban open pollinated cultivar, HC7880 on the left.  Plants are about 78 days after transplant.  100% of the plants of GC6 showed symptoms about 26 days after transplanting.  For the GF13 line, there are extremely mild geminiviral symptoms.

Line GC6 was selected because it has roma-shaped, firm fruit, it is high yielding when severely infected, and it is heat tolerate.
